What is Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)?
AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. AVID is an elective designed to support and prepare students to be college ready and successful beyond.  Two days a week, AVID elective class focuses on tutorials, which support students in their content classes such as math, science, English, and social studies.  The remaining days focus on AVID curriculum which focus on Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR) methodologies.  Students learn focused note taking, study skills, writing across content areas, organization of materials, reading strategies, and more.  Lastly, the AVID program exposes students to college culture and increases their awareness of college and career options, which include a college field trips and guest speakers.
The elective classes are AVID 7 and AVID 8 at the middle school and AVID I, AVID II, AVID III, and AVID IV at the high school.
