August 1, 2019

    Dear Echo Valley Families,
Welcome back to school!  This is going to be an incredible year.  We are so excited to extend a welcome to our Echo Valley Families. We have built a team of professional, talented and passionate staff members who are committed to the success of our students.
I am excited to embark on this journey with you.  This will be my 19th year as an educator. Before becoming principal of Echo Valley,  I have been a teacher, an instructional coach, and assistant principal. I am excited to lead the Echo Valley family as we forge ahead on our journey towards college and career readiness.
Maricela Rivera is our assistant principal.  She comes to Echo Valley with many years as an Instructional Coach. She is also fluent in Spanish and will lead our ELAC meetings.
Echo Valley looks to focus on 21st century learning through integration of arts and science.  Arts integration will include participation in the Youth Cinema Project, a partnership with the Latino Film Project started by Edward James Olmos.  Many teachers also integrate arts in their classes through our work with consultants from the Kennedy Center. Students will use the arts to help foster collaborative skills.  Students will also have access to a STEAM lab where their teachers can further their exposure to higher level thinking all focusing on increasing student achievement.
We will keep families informed during the year at Back to School Night, Open House and through newsletters.  Our district and site websites will keep you up to date on everything that is happening at Echo Valley.
I hope that you will join our parent groups.  Our PTG (Parent Teacher Group) helps fundraise to support field trips at all grade levels.  Our ELAC (English Language Advisory Committee) and School Site Council help make decisions for our school.  Look to our website and FaceBook page for further information. The more you become involved the more enriched your child’s experience will be.
As a parent your child will benefit from a focus on communication.  You have much more time with them than we do. Children are more likely to let you know how their day is going.  Contact us if you have any concerns. We are happy to work with you to make sure that your family has an outstanding experience at Echo Valley.  Open, honest, respectful communication is the key to success.
We are looking forward to our year with you.  There is so much going on here that is great!
