Multitudes: Reading Check

The reading check looks at key early literacy skills, including:

• Recognizing letters and their sounds.
• Playing with sounds in words (for example, saying "cat" without the /c/ sounds makes "at".
• Reading and spelling simple words.
• Quickly naming familiar objects or letters.

We use this new tool to:

• Learn what your child already knows about reading. 
• Detect early sings that a student might need extra support.
• Respond quickly with the right instruction so every child can become a successful reader.

If the results show your student could use extra help, we will: 

• Give follow-up checks in areas like sounds and phonics.
• Provide small-group or one-on-one lessons tailored to your student's needs. 
• Use research-based programs, such as Benchmark Advanced/Adelante (core instruction) and Benchmark Phonics/Taller de fonética (K-3 supplemental) to offer targeted support.
• Use targeted Tier 2 interventions through UFLI both whole class and in small groups. 
• Provide individualized practice in our i-Ready Mypath reading program.
• Monitor progress regularly to make sure the support is working. 

All families will get:

• A summary showing whether your child is on track or may need additional support. 
• Information about each area of the reading check.
• Ideas to help your student practice and grow at home.

• Multitudes is not a diagnostic test and does not label students. 
• Results are used only to guide instruction, intervention, and support.
• Families will receive results within 45 days. 
• Parents may choose to opt out by submitting a written request to their school principal.
