Instructional Services


Services For Students Learning English (LEP): Each school is provided with a Bilingual Resource Teacher (BRT) responsible for assessing student language acquisition after registration. In addition, student progress in acquiring English speaking, reading and writing skills, are measured annually on the California English Language Development Test (CELDT). These assessments ensure proper placement and services for LEP students

Special Education Department: Students with special needs receive services at their school based on an Individual Education Plan. For specific programs and resources, see Special Education link.

Gifted and Talented Education (GATE): Funding provided by the state provides training for teachers to extend the curriculum for gifted students, as well as development of Advanced Placement classes at the high school. Some enrichment activities are provided in the after school program .




Title One: Federal funding is provided for students who are performing below grade level and whose families are low income. All elementary and middle schools have a resource teacher to ensure appropriate services for Title One students. Services include


Migrant Program: Students who move across district lines when their parents seek agricultural work are provided extra services in the area of academics and health. Parents are provided opportunities to become involved in the formal education of their children. Academic services are provided in after school programs for elementary level students, and academic advisors for secondary students. Summer programs are available for students at all levels, with the “El Calmecac” Leadership Institute available for those at the secondary level.




Community Based English Tutoring: English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are offered, during the evening, to any adult who pledges to assist children learning English. This program serves about 150 parents annually. Child care is provided at our “Drop in and Play” site. All services are provided at Castroville School.
